FAQ’s

Trusted by Leading Brands

“From SMEs to large-scale manufacturers, Nexora coatings are the preferred choice for businesses that demand quality they can rely on.”

The right coating system depends on several factors, including the substrate, operating environment, corrosion exposure, chemical exposure, temperature, required service life and application conditions. Our technical team can recommend a suitable primer, intermediate coat and topcoat system based on your specific requirements.

Proper surface preparation is essential for coating adhesion and long-term performance. Contaminants such as rust, mill scale, oil, grease, dust and moisture can lead to premature coating failure. The required preparation method may include solvent cleaning, mechanical cleaning or abrasive blasting depending on the coating system and service environment.

DFT stands for Dry Film Thickness and refers to the thickness of the coating after it has fully dried or cured. Maintaining the recommended DFT is important to achieve the intended corrosion protection, durability and overall performance of the coating system.

The number of coats depends on the exposure conditions and required level of protection. A typical protective coating system may consist of a primer, an intermediate/high-build coat and a topcoat. More demanding environments may require higher total DFT or specially designed coating systems.

Pot life is the usable time available after the base and hardener of a two-component coating have been mixed. Once the specified pot life has expired, the material should not be used even if it still appears suitable for application. Pot life varies depending on the product and ambient temperature.

Only the recommended thinner should be used for a particular coating. Using an incorrect thinner or excessive thinning can affect application properties, drying, film formation and final coating performance. The appropriate thinner and recommended quantity are specified in the product’s Technical Data Sheet (TDS).

Epoxy coatings generally provide excellent adhesion, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance and durability, making them widely used as primers and intermediate coats. Polyurethane coatings are commonly used as topcoats where excellent colour retention, gloss retention and weathering resistance are required.

Generally, coatings should not be applied directly over loose rust, scale or poorly adhering existing paint. The surface should be properly inspected and prepared before application. Where an existing coating is present, its condition and compatibility with the proposed coating system should also be evaluated.

Common causes include inadequate surface preparation, incorrect DFT, improper mixing, incorrect thinner selection, application outside recommended environmental conditions, insufficient curing time, contamination and selection of an unsuitable coating system for the service environment.

Yes. A coating system can be recommended based on the substrate, operating environment, corrosion category, chemical or temperature exposure, application method and expected service conditions. For demanding applications, technical consultation helps determine the appropriate surface preparation, primer, intermediate coat, topcoat and total DFT.
